Former Tripos building - sold 2018

March 28, 2018

It cost about £6m to build and because it has been unoccupied since 2008, the Coastal Community Team took on the task of trying to bring this building back into use, as the potential social and economic benefits to the local community are significant.  It is a big challenge; there are a number of complex issues involving many organisations; funding is a key factor.

Over the past 2 yrs or so, many discussions have taken place with the building owners (HCA on behalf of HM Government), prospective occupants and partners, Cornwall Council, other consultants, etc together with ideas for using the space for work sharing, new start-ups, and higher/further education, and more.

The building was sold at auction in January 2018.  Currently we do not know who the new owners are, but it is encouraging that something is happening - hopefully that an economically viable use for the building will be achieved.

BCCT would welcome an opportunity to engage with the owners to explore options for collaboration.
