Bude-Stratton area Social Action Fund

The Social Action Fund is now open for grant applications

The Fund was set up to help organisations addressing the indirect impacts of the Coronavirus in the wider Bude area.

The Bude-Stratton Social Action fund was established by Bude Coastal Community Team (BCCT) and Neetside Community Centre, with partners Christians Together in Bude & Stratton, and Bude-Stratton Town Council. A Crowdfunder campaign raised over £5,700 for the Fund, with an additional £1,500 being pledged by local Cornwall Councillors. That money will now be distributed to community, voluntary and charity groups working in the wider Bude area that are helping people to deal with the indirect impacts of the pandemic.

Clare Hicks, a Trustee of Neetside Community Centre and member of the Social Action Fund Working Group said: “We are absolutely thrilled with the level of support given to the Crowdfunder campaign. We now need to spread the message that the Fund will be open to applications from organisations working in the wider Bude area, that’s the parishes of Bude-Stratton (including Poughill), Jacobstow, Kilkhampton, Launcells, Marhamchurch, Morwenstow, North Tamerton, Poundstock, St Gennys, Week St Mary and Whitstone”.

The deadline for applications is Monday 15th March 5pm. The Social Action Fund will be welcoming applications from organisations addressing issues including food and fuel poverty, loneliness, isolation and mental health, or just helping the local community with shopping, prescriptions and other needs. All of which address the indirect impacts of the Coronavirus pandemic.

“The Trustees and directors of both BCCT and Neetside Community Centre recognised the impact that Coronavirus is having on our community. Especially its indirect impacts on livelihoods, mental health and communities which have been considerable and will be felt for months to come” said Miranda Clarke, Manager, Neetside Community Centre.

Ian Saltern, Community Projects Manager for Bude Coastal Community Team explained: “The Social Action Fund will have a simple application form. Small groups without a constitution will be able to apply for up to £100, whilst larger, formally structured organisations can make bigger requests. All applicants must operate in the wider Bude area and must be addressing the indirect consequences of the pandemic. The Fund is not open to individuals.”

Cllr Tony Gibbs of Bude-Stratton Town Council and member of the Fund Working Group said: “I’m really pleased that the Council can lend its support to this most worthy cause. We know that there is real need out there and we hope that even this relatively small amount of money will make a big difference to our communities.” Peter Green of Christians Together added: “We are only too pleased to support this initiative. The effects of the pandemic will be felt for some time to come and continued support will be vital”.

Application forms for the Social Action Fund will be available for download from the websites of Bude Coastal Community Team www.budecoastalteam.org.uk and Bude-Stratton Town Council www.bude-stratton.gov.uk from Monday 15th February.
